Silver Banksias

Bring back Banksia marginata!

Once this gorgeous species was widespread in Trentham and districts but populations were severely reduced by land-clearing for agriculture and mining activities. Pods were collected from a remnant population at Susie Spence’s property in East Trentham by Clare Claydon and Trentham Landcare members. Shirley Proctor, Jan Robertson, Ann Keaney and Susie Spence de-seeded the pods. Shirley took care of logistics from there, passing seed onto @newsteadnatives who lovingly and successfully propagated seedlings which were distributed to members in May 2019

These little beauties are doing well - hopefully it won’t be too long before we see some tall yellow flowers attracting nectar feeding birds!
