Over 20 years of caring for our land

What Trentham Landcare do

Revegetation and weed removal have been key aspects of our work. This has included willow removal along the Coliban River near Enders Bridge.

We access grants, arrange consultants and contractors and lead working bees. Our projects and events have involved multiple people from diverse perspectives including ecologist Damien Cook, birder and science writer Tanya Loos, and pest eradication expert Brad Blake.

History of Landcare in Trentham

The Landcare movement in Victoria was launched in 1986, but grass roots groups working to care for land go back to as early as the 1950’s. Trentham and District Landcare was formed at a meeting of 36 interested people on 5 March 1997.

We acknowledge in particular the contribution made by local legends Barry Elliot who was the first president, and Gael Elliot who has provided invaluable advice to the group on the flora and fauna of the Trentham region since its inception.
