Take Action - Gorse Control Demonstration

Take Action - Gorse control demonstration

When: Sunday, 16 August 2026 | 09:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Where - Lauriston Public Hall 440 Lauriston Rd Lauriston

Join us for a practical field day focused on understanding the growth of gorse and managing and reducing gorse across local landscapes.

This event will showcase proven control methods, planning approaches and follow-up strategies to help landholders take effective action against one of Victoria’s most persistent invasive weeds.

Participants will see demonstration sites, hear from experienced practitioners and learn how integrated gorse management can protect productive land, support biodiversity, reduce pest animal harbour and improve long-term property outcomes.

  • Learn how to identify gorse and understand its life cycle, spread and seed bank.

  • Compare control options including cut-and-paint, foliar spraying, mulching and follow-up treatment.

  • Understand why long-term planning, monitoring and coordinated neighbour action are essential.

  • Find out where to access best-practice resources, advice and local support.

Whether you are starting a new control program or looking to improve existing works, this field day will provide practical guidance, useful contacts and the confidence to take the next step. All interested landholders and community members are welcome.

This event is run in collaboration with VGT (Victorian Gorse Taskforce)

Note: a portion of the day will be outside so make sure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear. A minor level of fitness and mobility is required.
