TSG is running a free, informative evening for Trentham residents, practitioners and those interested on Thursday, 17 September at The Mechanics, Trentham. The speakers are:-

Members want to know more about taking measures to prepare ourselves, our properties and our community. We understand that it is a topic that brings out divergent views, and that we have experts around us that live and breathe how to be as disaster-ready as possible.
Our speakers include Gavan Mathieson and Aaron Faulkhead who are leaders at the Forest Fire Management Victoria, Grampians Regions (an agency of DEECA). They will speak about how data on fire risk is used for bushfire management planning, reducing risk and how they work with the CFA and other agencies. They will illustrate how a fire may behave in the Wombat Forest on a moderate day, compared with a catastrophic day.
Sam Strong, CFA will discuss a new multiagency program based at the CFA. Sam is the local facilitator for the State Government’s Safer Together, funded Green Bridges Community Based Bushfire Management program. This aims to explore opportunities for community and nature-based approaches to ecological and community preparedness and bushfire resilience in the Trentham catchment. Sam is keen to learn about and support community interests in living with fire. This may include working across scales, linking together farms, gardens and lifestyle properties. As an emerging area of risk mitigation, these approaches are designed to complement other bushfire risk mitigation methods, while contributing to healthy and productive ecological systems.
Nicole McGrath is the CFA Community Engagement Coordinator for CFA’s District 15. Based in Ballarat, she brings extensive experience supporting CFA brigades and communities to prepare for and plan for fire emergency, and in the delivery of CFA Regional and District strategic outcomes against fire risk. She works closely with local brigades to understand local issues and risk and supports capacity and capability to contribute to fire preparedness activities.
